"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)

There are mornings when hope feels far away. Maybe you woke up this morning carrying yesterday's worries, the situation that still hasn't resolved, the relationship still in tension, the prayer that still hasn't been answered. If that's you today, I want you to sit with this verse for a moment and really let it land in your heart.

God spoke these words through the prophet Jeremiah to a people who were in captivity, not in some small, passing inconvenience, but in full-on exile. They had been uprooted from everything familiar. Their circumstances said one thing: this is over. But God said something entirely different: I have a plan, and it is good.

Notice what He says: "I know the thoughts that I think toward you." This isn't vague or uncertain. God isn't figuring it out as He goes. His thoughts toward you are settled, intentional, and purposeful. The word "expected" in the original Hebrew carries the idea of a cord stretched out toward a destination, a future with a specific and certain endpoint. God is not winging it with your life. He is pulling you forward with purpose.

The practical truth is this: hope is not a feeling you manufacture. It is a posture you choose. When circumstances shout that things are falling apart, hope declares that God is still holding it all together. You don't have to see the whole road ahead. You just have to trust the One who does.
So today, whatever you are facing, take one step of obedience, one act of trust, one moment of surrender to His plan. Open your hands. Lay down the anxiety. Remind your soul that the same God who had a plan for Israel in Babylon has a plan for you in the middle of your Babylon. His thoughts toward you are peace, not panic. Promise, not punishment.

Hope is not wishful thinking. Hope is a confident expectation, anchored in the character of a God who cannot lie and will not fail.

"Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost." Romans 15:13 (KJV)

Hi, I'm Ryan Vanderford, and I'm so glad you're here. For over a decade, I've had the incredible privilege of serving as the pastor of Hope Chapel, a community built on faith, love, and the belief that hope is never out of reach. Ministry is more than a calling for me. It's a daily reminder that God meets us right where we are. Through every season of life, the highs and the hard days, I've seen firsthand what hope can do in a person's heart, and that's what A Moment of Hope is all about. My prayer is that this little corner of the internet feels like a warm cup of coffee and an encouraging word from a friend. Whether you're walking closely with God or just beginning to find your way, you belong here. So pull up a chair. Let's find hope together.
