PRAYER REQUEST

dealing with anxious thoughts, finding peace

Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV) “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Anxiety has a way of showing up before the day even begins. There are mornings you wake up and your mind is already overwhelmed before your feet ever touch the floor. The pressure of life, uncertainty about tomorrow, financial stress, family burdens, health concerns, and unanswered questions can all pile up at once.

If we are not careful, worry will try to become the loudest voice in our life.

But the Word of God gives us another option. Paul writes in Philippians 4, “Be careful for nothing.” The word careful means anxious, troubled, distracted, and pulled apart by worry. God never intended for His people to live controlled by fear and anxiety. That does not mean life will always be easy, but it does mean we do not have to carry the weight alone.
Notice Paul does not just tell us to stop worrying. He tells us what to do instead. Pray.

Bring everything to God. Not just the major crises, but the everyday burdens too. The things nobody else sees. The silent battles. The stress you carry behind the smile. Prayer is not just a religious routine. Prayer is where the burden shifts from your hands into God’s hands.

And Paul said to pray “with thanksgiving.” Even before the answer comes, we thank God because we trust His faithfulness. Gratitude changes the atmosphere of the heart. Fear magnifies problems, but thanksgiving magnifies God.

Then comes the promise: “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

This is not peace based on circumstances. This is supernatural peace. Peace when life does not make sense. Peace when the answer has not arrived yet. Peace in the middle of the storm.
God’s peace becomes a guard over your heart and mind. While the world is overwhelmed by fear, God can keep His people steady through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Today, somebody needs to remember this: you do not have to carry everything by yourself. God is still faithful. God is still present. And the peace of God is still available.

At Hope Chapel UPC in Olive Branch, we believe real hope and real peace are found through Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Ghost. Finding Peace When Life Feels Heavy | Hope Chapel Olive Branch MS

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD,
and he shall sustain thee:
he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

Psalm 55:22 (KJV)

Carrying More Than You Were Meant To
Have you ever woken up already tired? Not from a lack of sleep, but from the weight you’re carrying.
The pressure of finances. The strain in a relationship. The uncertainty of what tomorrow might bring. If that’s where you are today, here’s a simple truth you need to hear: You were never meant to carry it alone.
At Hope Chapel in Olive Branch, MS, we believe God meets you right in moments like this, not after you figure everything out, but right in the middle of the weight.

When Life Feels Overwhelming, God Is Still Faithful
Psalm 55 wasn’t written in a peaceful moment. David was overwhelmed. He was surrounded by enemies. He was dealing with betrayal from someone he trusted. This wasn’t a light day, it was a breaking point. And yet, in the middle of all that pressure, David points us to something unshakable: The faithfulness of God.

What It Really Means to “Cast Your Burden”
“Cast thy burden upon the LORD…” That word cast doesn’t mean gently placing something down.
It means to throw it. To release it with force. To stop carrying what’s crushing you. This kind of prayer isn’t always polished.

Sometimes it sounds like:
  • Tears instead of words
  • Silence filled with surrender
  • Or one honest sentence:
“Lord, I can’t do this anymore. I need You.”
And that kind of prayer? God responds to that.

God Doesn’t Just Remove the Weight, He Sustains You Through It
“He shall sustain thee…” God never promised a life without problems. But He did promise this:

He will hold you up while you walk through them.
  • When you feel weak → He becomes your strength
  • When you feel unstable → He keeps you grounded
  • When you feel overwhelmed → He carries what you can’t

“He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” That means you’re not going under. You’re not slipping through the cracks. You’re not forgotten. God is sustaining you...even now.

A Simple Step You Can Take Today
Before your day gets busy, pause for just a moment.
Take 60 seconds and do this:
  1. Name what’s weighing on you
  2. Say it out loud if you can
  3. Then say: “Lord, I’m giving this to You.”
It may feel small, but something shifts when you do it.
You’re not ignoring the problem. You’re transferring the weight.

You Don’t Have to Carry This Alone
Come back to this verse throughout your day: Psalm 55:22 God didn’t promise a burden-free life. He promised to carry the burden with you and for you.  And that’s more than enough.

Peace and Trust in Uncertain Times

Picture
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea… Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:1–2, 10 (KJV)

God Is Already There
Good morning, Before the noise of the day finds you… before the emails start coming in and the weight of responsibility begins to press in… God is already there. He has been watching over you through the night. He is not distant this morning. He is present. Right here. Right now.

When Life Feels Like It’s Falling Apart
Psalm 46 was not written in a calm, quiet moment.
This isn’t a peaceful scene with everything going right. The psalmist describes the earth being removed and mountains collapsing into the sea. That’s not inconvenience—that’s chaos. That’s life unraveling. And yet, in the middle of that kind of instability, God speaks one simple command:
“Be still.”

What “Be Still” Really Means
That word “still” carries a deeper meaning than just being quiet.
In the original Hebrew, it means to let go… to release your grip.
It’s not just about silence. It’s about surrender.
It’s the moment you unclench your hands from everything you’ve been trying to control… and trust that God is already holding it together.

You Don’t Have to Carry This
So many of us wake up already carrying things we were never meant to hold:
  • Replaying conversations
  • Anticipating worst-case scenarios
  • Trying to solve everything before the day even starts

And in the middle of all that, God gently speaks:
“Let go. I am God.”
That’s not correction.
That’s invitation.
An invitation to rest.
An invitation to trust.
An invitation to release what was never yours to carry.

A Reminder for Today
You don’t have to have it all figured out today.
God already does.
He is not surprised by what you’re facing.
He is not overwhelmed by what’s ahead of you.
And He is not late.
He is a very present help...right in the middle of it all.

Practical Application: Start Your Day Still
Before you reach for your phone this morning…Before you scroll, check messages, or step into the demands of the day…Take two minutes. Sit still.
No agenda. No long list of prayers.
No pressure to say the right words. Just be.
Let your heart slow down. Let your thoughts settle.
Let His presence remind you:He’s got this.
Whatever is waiting on you today, God already knew about it before you woke up.
And He’s not worried.

Hi, I'm Ryan Vanderford, and I'm so glad you're here. For over a decade, I've had the incredible privilege of serving as the pastor of Hope Chapel, a community built on faith, love, and the belief that hope is never out of reach. Ministry is more than a calling for me. It's a daily reminder that God meets us right where we are. Through every season of life, the highs and the hard days, I've seen firsthand what hope can do in a person's heart, and that's what A Moment of Hope is all about. My prayer is that this little corner of the internet feels like a warm cup of coffee and an encouraging word from a friend. Whether you're walking closely with God or just beginning to find your way, you belong here. So pull up a chair. Let's find hope together.
