Find Strength and Peace Today | Psalm 28:7 Morning Devotional – Hope Chapel Olive Branch MS

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”
Psalm 28:7 (KJV)

There is something powerful about the first moments of a new day.
Before the noise finds you.
Before the notifications start lighting up your phone.
Before yesterday tries to follow you into today.
There is an invitation.
God is already there.

He was there before your alarm went off. He was there while you were sleeping. And He is here now, not distant, not distracted, but present and ready to meet you right where you are.

Psalm 28 is not written from a place of comfort. David is not sitting in ease. He is crying out. He knows what it feels like to be overwhelmed, to feel surrounded, to question if his voice is being heard.

But David does something powerful.
He doesn’t stay in the cry. He moves to confidence.
“My heart trusted in him, and I am helped.”

That’s not past tense. That’s not a story he’s remembering. That is a present reality. David had built a pattern in his life. Every time he leaned on God, God showed up. Every time he trusted, God responded. And now his confidence is not based on feelings, it’s based on history with God.

And here is where this meets you today.
You may be walking into something heavy.
Maybe it’s a situation in your home.
Maybe it’s pressure in your finances.
Maybe it’s something in your body or your mind that nobody else sees.

The enemy would love for you to carry it alone. He would love for you to believe that this day depends entirely on you.

But the Word reminds us clearly:
The Lord is your strength.
The Lord is your shield.

Strength means He holds you up when you feel like you’re about to fall.
Shield means He stands between you and what’s trying to take you out.
And He has not changed.

The same God that David trusted is the same God you can trust right now in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Right in the middle of your real life, your real pressure, your real questions.

Here’s the practical part
Before you open your phone…
Before you scroll…
Before you check the news or your email…
Pause.
Speak it out loud.
“Lord, I trust You with this day.”

It doesn’t have to be polished. It doesn’t have to sound spiritual. It just has to be real.
Say it in your kitchen.
Say it in your car.
Say it while you’re getting ready.
That simple act shifts something.
It moves you from reacting… to anchoring.
From carrying… to surrendering.
From anxiety… to alignment.

David said, “My heart trusted… and I am helped.”
Help shows up when trust is released.

And then something else happens.
“Therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth.”

Notice the order.
Trust comes first. Help follows. Joy shows up after.

You don’t have to manufacture joy. You don’t have to fake it or force it. When you put your trust in God, He fills your heart with something the world cannot give and cannot take away.

Practical Follow-Up: Living This Out Today
If you want to walk this out beyond just reading it, here are a few simple steps you can apply today:
1. Start your day with surrender (1–2 minutes).
Before anything else, say: “Lord, I trust You with my schedule, my conversations, and my concerns.” Write it down if needed. Make it a daily rhythm.
2. Identify one thing you’re carrying.
Be honest. What is weighing on you right now? Name it specifically in prayer. Don’t generalize it. Bring it to God directly.
3. Replace worry with a spoken reminder.
Every time anxiety tries to rise today, say: “God is my strength and my shield.” Speak it until your heart catches up with your confession.
4. Play worship instead of noise.
Turn on a worship song during your drive or at home. Let your atmosphere shift. Praise is not just a response, it’s a weapon.
5. End your day with reflection.
Take 2 minutes tonight and ask yourself: “Where did I see God help me today?” Write it down. Build your own testimony like David did.

You are not walking into this day alone. He is your strength when you feel weak.
He is your shield when you feel exposed. He is your help when you don’t know what to do next.
And He is with you right now.

Hi, I'm Ryan Vanderford, and I'm so glad you're here. For over a decade, I've had the incredible privilege of serving as the pastor of Hope Chapel, a community built on faith, love, and the belief that hope is never out of reach. Ministry is more than a calling for me. It's a daily reminder that God meets us right where we are. Through every season of life, the highs and the hard days, I've seen firsthand what hope can do in a person's heart, and that's what A Moment of Hope is all about. My prayer is that this little corner of the internet feels like a warm cup of coffee and an encouraging word from a friend. Whether you're walking closely with God or just beginning to find your way, you belong here. So pull up a chair. Let's find hope together.
