When God Starts Opening Doors You Didn’t Knock On | desoto county, ms

Revelation 3:8 “I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it...”

There are seasons where it feels like everything in life requires force.
Force the opportunity. Force the relationship.
Force the connection. Force the breakthrough.
Force people to understand you. Force things to happen.
And if we are honest, exhaustion usually follows people who are trying to force what only God can open.

But Scripture gives us a different picture.
Jesus said: “I have set before thee an open door.”
Not a cracked door. Not a “maybe.”
Not a door you have to manipulate open. An open door.

One thing I’ve learned about God is this:
When He opens something, you stop having to strive the way you used to.
That does not mean there is no work. It means there is finally grace on the work.

There is a difference between:
  • pushing in flesh
  • and moving with favor
One leaves you drained. The other leaves you strengthened.

Some Doors Open Quietly
Most people expect open doors to look dramatic.
But many times, God opens doors quietly.
A phone call you did not expect.
A conversation that suddenly shifts.
Peace where confusion used to live.
An opportunity that did not exist six months ago.
A burden lifting off your spirit.
A clarity you did not have before.
Sometimes the open door is not external first.
Sometimes the first door God opens is inside you.
He opens:
  • your vision
  • your faith
  • your confidence
  • your understanding
  • your willingness to move again
Before Lazarus ever walked out of the grave, the stone had to move first.
And there are people reading this right now who have been staring at closed stones for so long that you forgot God still moves impossible things.

Stop Worshipping Closed Doors
One of the most dangerous things people do spiritually is become obsessed with what did not open.
We replay:
  • missed opportunities
  • rejected applications
  • failed relationships
  • unanswered prayers
  • seasons that did not work out
Meanwhile, God is trying to pull your eyes toward what is opening now.
Isaiah 43:19 says: “Behold, I will do a new thing…”

Not the old thing revived. Not the dead thing restarted. A new thing.
You cannot fully walk into what God is opening while living emotionally chained to what already closed.

Some doors closed because they were wrong. Some closed because the season changed.
Some closed because staying there would have limited where God was taking you.
Not every closed door was an attack. Some were protection.

What Open Doors Require
Open doors still require obedience.
The children of Israel still had to step into the Jordan.
Peter still had to step out of the boat.
The disciples still had to leave their nets.

Faith is not standing in front of an open door praying forever about whether to walk through it.
At some point: You move. You trust. You obey. You step.

Too many people want certainty before obedience.
But throughout Scripture, obedience usually came before understanding.
God does not always give the full blueprint. He gives the next step.

This week, stop asking: “God, why did that close?”
And start asking: “Lord, what are You opening in front of me right now?”

Pay attention to:
  • renewed burden
  • fresh peace
  • new opportunity
  • divine connections
  • restored passion
  • growing conviction

Sometimes the open door is not flashy. It is simply the grace to move again.
And maybe that is the word for somebody today: You are not stuck. You are standing in front of a door God already opened.

Hi, I'm Ryan Vanderford, and I'm so glad you're here. For over a decade, I've had the incredible privilege of serving as the pastor of Hope Chapel, a community built on faith, love, and the belief that hope is never out of reach. Ministry is more than a calling for me. It's a daily reminder that God meets us right where we are. Through every season of life, the highs and the hard days, I've seen firsthand what hope can do in a person's heart, and that's what A Moment of Hope is all about. My prayer is that this little corner of the internet feels like a warm cup of coffee and an encouraging word from a friend. Whether you're walking closely with God or just beginning to find your way, you belong here. So pull up a chair. Let's find hope together.
